Since school started, I have found that my lesson students have gotten a little too comfortable expecting the helpers to do all the work. I would like parents to share this message with their rider and appreciate that the parents positively reinforce their rider’s responsibilities from the ground. 1. All riders need to be AT LEAST 15 minutes early. They need to hustle out of the car. Look at the list. Get a peppermint and put on their helmet and gloves. 2. Does your horse need a saddle? Groomed? Additional tack? BE A GO-GETTER AND GET IT DONE WITHOUT BEING PROMPTED. Honestly, if your rider is capable of tacking up a horse, then they need to be at the barn with enough time (30 min or more) to prepare their horse. *** I understand that there is homework and other stuff but your rider should be working with the horses on the ground as much as possible ***** 3. After the lesson. Your rider has to put their tack away. Encourage them to be proactive…If they see something else that needs to be picked up or thrown away THEN DO IT 4. Does your horse need a sheet or blanket on? Is there another horse that needs one on? MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO PUT THEM ON and use all of the butt straps correctly. This is a time-consuming chore at the end of the lesson day. Any help is appreciated but let’s make sure we do it correctly so the horse doesn’t get tangled up and hurt. 5. Other small tasks that help a bunch: - pick up little house -pick up trash in people room -water -stuff hay bags. Use the wheelbarrow and bring some hay to the barn, little arena, bullpen and fill a hay bag -tidy up the tack room -sheets or blankets need to go on a horse that is finished working for the day |
